Parenting plans may need to include contingency plans

The school calendar is one that parents usually pour over at the beginning of the year, especially if they have a parenting time schedule to follow. This enables them to make plans for where the children will go over breaks. Some parents might not think about it ahead of time, but they also need to try to make tentative plans for what will happen if there is an unplanned school closure.

It isn't always easy to determine where the kids will go when schools close suddenly for things like illnesses or the weather. You and your ex might have to work together to come up with a plan for the kids, especially if you have little ones.

Times like these might require you to take turns watching the kids or turn to family members for help. The saying "it takes a village to raise a child" can come into the picture because not all parents can take off work, but those who can might be able to help with the issue.

This problem is one that will likely impact lower income families who can't afford to pay for emergency child care. Having your plan made ahead of time and included in the parenting plan can take some of the stress off of you. Try to be realistic about what's going to happen, so you can rely on it.

This is only one of the considerations that you have to think about when you're working with your ex to come up with the parenting plan. Making the schedule you follow during the rest of the year and holidays is also necessary.
