J. Matthew Kelly
Since joining Saunders Law Group, Matt has handled matters in the practice areas of Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, Commercial Litigation, Appellate Practice, and Family Law.
Matt attended Florida State University where he double majored in Finance and Real Estate. While at Florida State University, Matt joined the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and acted as the fraternity’s Vice President of Scholarship.
Matt then went on to attend Barry University School of Law in Orlando, Florida.
Meet Attorney Matt Kelly
While at Barry University School of Law, Matt was invited to join the Barry Law Review. He assisted other law students with legal writing and research skills as a Note & Comment Editor for the Barry Law Review. He was also invited to join the Moot Court Honors Board where he competed in national advocacy competitions. During these national competitions, Matt’s brief writing and oral advocacy skills were tested against other law students from around the nation. His success in Moot Court earned him the appointment as “Chief Justice” of the Barry University School of Law’s Moot Court team where he acted as the chief executive officer of the organization.
In addition to his participation in extracurricular activities, Matt also excelled in the classroom. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was in the top 4% of students in his graduating class. Matt was awarded a total of six “Book Awards” during his law school career, a recognition given in each class for the highest overall grade achieved by a student that term.
Following his graduation from Barry, Matt joined Snure & Ponall in 2014 as an associate attorney. He practiced in the areas of criminal appeals and criminal defense. During his time with Snure & Ponall, he continued to advance his legal writing and research skills by drafting numerous appellate briefs. Matt also continued to develop his oral advocacy ability. Matt conducted four appellate oral arguments in front of the Fifth District Court of Appeal.
Matt is a member of the Wilson American Inn of Court, the Lakeland Bar Association, and the Polk County Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice in the Federal Middle District of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Matt is proud to call Lakeland, Florida, his home, where he lives with his wife, Katie, and dog, Gracie.
