AnnouncementsNovember 4, 2011: The law firm participated in the Downtown Lakeland Partnership’s First Friday program on November 4, 2011. The Downtown Lakeland Partnership arranges First Friday events, on the first Friday of each month, to promote community and is “An Art & Entertainment Experience”. While this was the “first” by the firm, we hope to participate in many more First Fridays. The lawyers, paralegals and some volunteers were on hand during the November 4, 2011 First Friday, which was co-organized by the Polk County Builders Association, meeting with people and discussing ways in which the firm could help people with an array of different problems. October 27, 2011: Saunders Law Group is proud to announce that this year, 2011, marks the firm’s first-ever entry into the annual Bartow Halloween Parade, organized by the Crickette Club of Bartow. The firm decorated a classic Mercedes and handed out candy and other promotional items along the parade route – attorney Alan Perez drove our entry throughout the parade route, with the help of some witches that were along for the ride. Because the law firm is situated along the parade route, Tom Saunders and the members of the firm decorated the front of the building and were on hand to assist members of the community to gather more information about the services that Saunders Law Group provides. The law firm even won “Best Decorated Car/Truck” for the 2011 parade entry. October 27, 2011: Each year, the students of a local elementary school trick-or-treat the Broadway area neighborhood in Bartow in celebration of Halloween; and each year, Saunders Law Group gladly decorates the office and invites the students, parents, and teachers into the office and provide “treats” (so as to avoid any “tricks”) to the children. This year was no different and the law firm opened its doors in celebration of the Halloween festivities. Pictured below is attorney Alan Perez, making sure all the children were given treats:

October 22, 2011: Saunders Law Group was proud to host a booth at the 14th annual Hispanic Festival of Polk County. The Festival took place at the Lake Mirror Promenade and Barnett Family Park in downtown Lakeland, Florida. Admission was free of charge and there was a special appearance by Tito Puente, Jr. There was a delicious array of food, music and fun. On hand at the Festival were the attorneys, Tom Saunders and Alan Perez, as well as the paralegals and some volunteers. The members of the firm handed out information about the services we provide, as well as some tote bags, coozies, pens – and free popcorn! Pictured below is the law firm’s custom-designed booth:


May 12, 2011: Alan Perez was a presenter and a panelist at an event held at the Polk County Courthouse entitled “Emerging Hispanics in the Tenth Judicial Circuit”. The event was organized by the Tenth Judicial Circuit Historical Committee and the Hispanic Bar Association for the Tenth Judicial Circuit. The Honorable Justice Jorge Labarga of the Florida Supreme Court was a distinguished guest and keynote speaker at the event, which drew a crowd of about 120 attorneys and judges from within the Tenth Judicial Circuit.
May 6, 2011: Alan Perez participated as an attorney in a mock trial at Folsom Elementary School in Thonotosassa, Florida. The mock trial was designed to teach the students of the fourth grade the fundamentals of trial and the general practice of law. Alan represented the United States in the fictional case of: The United States v. Paul Bunyan, a case wherein the government was seeking compensation against Paul Bunyan and his ox for damages associated with Mr. Bunyan’s cutting down forest trees. Afterwards, Alan answered many questions posed by the children relating to everyday practice. Below is a photo of Alan and some of the cast members:

December 30, 2010: Alan Perez became a founding member and Vice President of the Hispanic Bar Association of the Tenth Judicial Circuit. The Hispanic Bar Association of the Tenth Judicial Circuit focuses on promoting diversity and awareness of the growing Hispanic population around Polk, Hardee and Highlands Counties. The “HBA” seeks to promote awareness of the special legal needs and considerations required when representing Hispanics.
October 23, 2010: Saunders Law Group hosted an informational booth at the Hispanic Festival held on the grounds of the Lake Mirror Promenade in downtown Lakeland, Florida. The free event, attended by thousands of people, provided an afternoon of food, music and fun. July, 2010: Thomas C. Saunders is named as one of Florida’s elite lawyers in Florida Trends Magazine’s Florida Legal Elite, a publication highlighting current trends in various matters around the State of Florida.
April 6, 2009: The attorneys, Tom and Alan, flew to Tallahassee, Florida for an argument to be presented to the Supreme Court of the State of Florida by Tom Saunders. The attorneys, pictured below, made final preparations for the oral argument during the flight to Tallahassee.


Florida Bar Certifies 85 Attorneys as Specialists in an Area of Law
Eighty-five Florida lawyers have been “board certified” by the Florida Bar as possessing special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of the law. Of the group, some 65 lawyers were board certified in civil trial, 13 in marital and family law, and seven in tax law.
Only lawyers who have achieved certification can identify themselves as a “specialist” or as “Florida Bar board certified” in telephone books or other forms of advertising.
Saunders Appointed to Florida Bar Civil Trial Committee
Thomas C. Saunders, was appointed to the Florida Bar civil trial certification committee.
Saunders is a board certified civil trial lawyer and was named to the certification committee by the then president of the Florida Bar Association.
Saunders was appointed to a three-year term on the committee, where he will recommend standards for civil trial law certification and review applicants for certification with eight other committee members. The certification committee also prepares the certification test questions, and administers and grades the examinations.
